Youth can join Royal Canadian Sea Cadets beginning at age 12 and may remain in the program until they age out at 18. No previous experience is required.

For younger youth, the Navy League Cadet program may be available starting at age 9.

There is no registration fee to join Sea Cadets. Uniforms are also provided at no cost while the cadet is enrolled in the program.

Families may occasionally be asked to support optional fundraising activities, special events, optional Corps training, or optional Corps merchandise. Some optional activities, such as year-end trips, hockey or lacrosse games, and other special outings, may have a small fee. However, participation in Sea Cadets is designed to remain accessible to all youth.

RCSCC Whitby normally trains on Wednesday evenings from September to June.

Cadets should arrive on time and be prepared for inspection, training, announcements, and scheduled activities. Additional optional activities may take place on weekends or other evenings depending on the training calendar.

No. Cadets do not need any prior experience in sailing, music, drill, sports, leadership, or nautical activities.

The program is designed to teach cadets step-by-step. New cadets will learn the basics as part of regular training and will be supported by staff, senior cadets, and volunteers.

No. The cadet uniform is provided at no cost while the cadet is enrolled in the program.

Cadets are expected to take care of their uniform, wear it properly, and return issued items when required. Corps merchandise, such as hoodies or T-shirts, is optional and is not part of the official cadet uniform.

Yes. Parent and community volunteers are an important part of RCSCC Whitby.

Volunteers may help with fundraising, events, transportation coordination, administration, food service, supervision support, special projects, and other activities that help the corps operate successfully.

Some volunteer roles may require screening, approval, or training depending on the nature of the activity.

Donations help support local cadet activities, training opportunities, equipment, transportation, special events, and other needs that enhance the cadet experience.

No. Sea Cadets is not a military recruiting program.

The program uses a naval theme to teach leadership, citizenship, teamwork, responsibility, physical fitness, and life skills. Cadets are not required to join the Canadian Armed Forces, and participation does not create any military service obligation.

Yes. New cadets and parents are encouraged to visit during a regular training night before completing registration.

A visit gives families a chance to meet staff, ask questions, see the program in action, and understand what to expect.

For the first visit, your child should wear neat, comfortable clothing suitable for an evening youth activity.

A uniform is not required for the first visit. Once registered, cadets will receive direction on uniform issue, dress standards, and what to wear for future training nights.

Yes. Sea Cadets may have access to summer training opportunities depending on age, experience, eligibility, and availability.
